The Fabulous Continuing Continuance

It's been a few months and nope, I'm not missing the cover band scene at all.  I am, however, missing the *band* scene, so...

Still looking!

Yes, that's right, I'm still searching for the right musical situation.  Haven't really put myself out there in the mass advertising sense, but availability definitely exists for the right project.  What is that, exactly?  Well, it's simple, and it's not.  Let's start with the simple:
    Progressive, Aggressive, Inclusive and Fun!
By "progressive music" I mean a particular form of it that's as of yet not exactly defined.  While I appreciate the classical bands of the genre (Yes, Crimson, ELP, Mahavishnu, Gentle Giant, etc), I'm not looking for strictly an homage, tribute, or retro sound, although I appreciate useful elements and influence.  I'm also not interested in the metal interpretation that's currently popular in the genre.  Instead, I'm holding out for something influenced by all of that but fresh.  My old band Die A Tribe was probably a fine example of that pursuit.  Engaging, different, musically challenging, full of personality, song and message focused, and most of all, fun!  Of the bands currently out there, Flying Colors and Spock's Beard probably come closest.  I dig The Flower Kings as well.  And yet, even those have the modicum of classic prog homage.  Perhaps I should also relay disinterest in overtly masturbatory math rock or formulaic Quaalude blues.  Some rock and alternative, jazz-fusion, world influences to be sure—as long as it has the notable vocals.

Aggressive ambition?  Why not.  If you're going to put in the time and effort, make a serious attempt at a quality product.  The end result will be a measure of demand.  Nobody wants to see you on tour if you suck, but if the music is good enough, the band able enough, and the demand strong enough, I'm all in.  It's a lengthy process that requires dedication to excellence.

Everyone wants a say-so.  That's what great collaboration is all about—ideas that serve the song, mutual respect and input.  A band of leaders?  Not necessarily.  I believe there will be times when leadership is needed, especially when the legal business matters start happening.  Not everyone will agree on everything all the time, and that's when a thoughtful leader is important.  Mostly, however, I hope to find a positive, nurturing culture that constantly invites fresh ideas...a group that finds its zone quickly and runs at a breakneck pace.

Most of all, make it fun.  Everything else vibes on auto!
